Project Summary: This 4,000-square-foot tenant improvement created distinctive new office space in downtown Menlo Park. The build-out included several private offices accented with leather panel walls and a spacious conference room highlighted with sliding panel doors and a leather accent wall aligned in geometric patterns. Resawn woods walls throughout the space and wire-brushed wood ceilings yield a modern rustic look. A sliding barn door with privacy glass separates the lobby from the conference room, lounge area, and additional offices. General Motors
Island Drive Lobby

Client: General Motors
Size: 19,436 square feet
Project Summary: This 19,436-square-foot tenant improvement created new office and R&D lab space for General Motors. The build-out included several conference and meeting rooms, a “Round table” discussion room, huddle rooms, a mother’s room, a training room, and lounge spaces, two of which incorporate glass walls for viewing into the garage lab space.

A large employee lounge features diner-style booths with built-in TV monitors, a stone peninsula with counter seating and pendant lighting, and a kitchenette accented with a striking blue geometric-patterned tile backsplash. InterlockingRock dimensional panels create a continuous, uninterrupted sculptural wall along one side, while vivid blue and green walls and accent pieces complete the color palette. Additional rooms off the employee lounge include a media lounge with TV screen, as well as a vending machine, recycle, and storage room.

Several open bullpen areas are accented with pub-height butcher-block rectangular tables, which combine filing cabinet storage with collaborative seating areas. The remodel also included ADA-compliant restroom cores.

The build-out’s most unique component is a nearly 2,000-square-foot, two-bay garage with room for four vehicles, which serves as a research and development lab for real-time testing and assessment of automotive advancements. The garage is connected to a high-output exhaust fan, allowing technicians to run vehicle engines inside the building during testing. Large orange tubes connected to exhaust pipes extract the carbon monoxide from the garage. In addition, an air exchange fan maintains fresh air quality, while two carbon monoxide sensors protect technicians from accidental exposure.
