Interns and New Hires Tackle a Simulated Project for Kidder Mathews Commercial Real Estate Brokerage

For a unique, on-the-job learning experience, members of the Cody|Brock management team took our three summer interns and our two newest project engineers to the Kidder Mathews office in San Jose to gain a better understanding of the contractor’s role in commercial leasing.

Dave Vanoncini, Senior Vice President and Managing Partner of Kidder Mathews, led the discussion, assisted by Jim Maggi, Executive Vice President, and Jimmy Cacho, Senior Associate. The group toured a vacant, 3,000-square-foot space currently for lease and discussed the responsibilities when representing landlords, building owners and tenants, and the items potentially involved in negotiating leases, such as the contractor’s role and tenant improvement allowances.

Afterwards, Cody|Brock Vice President Casey Vermette assigned the “students” a simulated project: Create a detailed Scope of Work for updating the space as if Kidder Mathews had requested this information for a potential tenant. Students were required to work independently within a short time frame to simulate a typical industry scenario.
