Western Allied Mechanical Leads Cody|Brock’s Second Lunch ‘N’ Learn of Summer 2017

July 19, 2017

As part of Cody|Brock’s summer education series, Western Allied Mechanical Vice President Zachary Russi, P.E. LEED AP, and Project Manager Greg Russell explained the wide variety of HVAC systems to Cody|Brock Project Engineers, Project Managers, Superintendents, and interns. An extensive 22-slide PowerPoint presentation demonstrated the different types of HVAC equipment, such as Package Unit, Custom AHU, Boiler, Chilled Water, Condensing Unit, and Fan Coil. Russi and Russell then described the different types of systems available to accompany these, based on the size and space of the particular project, such as clean room or server room. A highlight of the afternoon was a Chipotle lunch and Western Allied merchandise for attendees.

Cody|Brock employees gained a number of helpful take-aways. Superintendent Jerry Stacy was amazed to see difference in cost per square foot among the various systems, adding, “It was nice to find out the break points of each system.” Project Engineer Nick Garcia explained that HVAC is one of the more complicated subs he deals with so it was great to become more knowledgeable about it. Project Manager Christian Buono appreciated learning about the differences between the various systems.

Summer interns also benefited from learning about the different types of ventilation systems used in the industry and the pros and cons of each type. Daniel Vasquez commented that he now understands the new California regulations related to ventilation systems and how to select the best type of ventilation for specific kinds of projects. He particularly enjoyed learning about the trend toward more environmentally friendly ventilation systems. Connor Cody noted, “It was really helpful to better understand price ranges and what certain sized buildings would need in the way of HVAC just based on size and usage.”
